Hang Tuah — The Laksamana

Admiral of Malacca’s fleet and the living embodiment of Malay loyalty. His loyalty is absolute — and the franchise asks whether that absolute loyalty is a virtue or a tragedy.

Franchise role: Appears across all media as either active character or defining absence. In games, he functions as mentor, moral compass, and eventual obstacle.

Hang Jebat — The Rebel

Branded a traitor for refusing an unjust execution order, Jebat represents the counter-argument to Tuah’s obedience. His rebellion is principled, articulate, and ultimately doomed.

Franchise role: The moral crucible. Every protagonist must eventually position themselves relative to Tuah and Jebat.

Tun Perak — The Strategist

The Bendahara. The most powerful administrator in Malaccan history. He sees the rot, understands the inevitability of collapse, and fights to delay it by any means necessary. He is the franchise’s spymaster figure.

Afonso de Albuquerque — The Conqueror

The Portuguese commander. Not depicted as evil — depicted as competent, ruthless, and operating within a system that rewards those qualities. He is the consequence, not the cause.
